Hi friends! In this episode of Bianca’s Kitchen, I’m sharing my recipe for delicious vegan air fryer beef bites with barbecue flavor! This version of vegan meat is soy based, I use textured vegetable protein (TVP). It’s very easy to prepare and the result is so tasty!
This meatless version of beef bites is high in protein and at the same time lower in cholesterol. This mock meat is a beginner friendly recipe and ideal if you want to try e.g. Meatless Monday. It’s a great start if you’re new to vegan food and looking for a low key dish. If you wish, make this dish oil free by using the vegan egg replacer aquafaba instead of oil (check out my homemade aquafaba tutorial: https://youtu.be/JFadDXvqxKs)!
TVP can be stored for a long time which makes it an ideal food to stock your vegan pantry. It also can be used for many other dishes that imitate meat and fish, for example vegan chicken salad or vegan tuna salad (recipe: https://youtu.be/AdAO6sy8VwI). This recipe uses chunky TVP which can be found at many health food stores or purchased online, e.g.:

My air fryer is a Philips Starfish (The air fryer shown in the video is a Philips Starfish (https://amzn.to/3s3lka6). We use it several times a week and highly recommend it!). Philips is the air fryer original and I highly recommend the brand!
// VEGAN AIR FRYER BEEF BITES //
Ingredients:
(these are just rough measurements)
β about 3.5 oz. (100g) textured vegetable protein (TVP)
β about 2.5 cups (600ml) water
β a few drops liquid smoke
β Β½ teaspoon liquid aminos or soy souce
β 1 teaspoon tomato paste
β 1 tablespoon BBQ seasoning
β 1 tablespoon sun flower seed or canola oil,
alternatively replace with aquafaba for an oil free version (juice from canned or homecooked chickpeas, check out my tutorial here: https://youtu.be/JFadDXvqxKs)
Method:
Bring the water to a boil. Pour it into a bowl, mix in liquid smoke, liquid aminos or soy sauce, tomate paste. Stir well until everything is dissolved. Add the tvp, let soak for at least 10 minutes, stirring it occasionally to make sure all parts of the tvp get exposed to the water. Once the vegan meat has a spongy, rubbery consistency, wring out the pieces, pressing out as much water as possible.
Add the tvp, oil and BBQ seasoning into a bowl, mix until all pieces are coated. Fill the vegan meat into your air fryer basket. Set the temperature at 355 Fahrenheit (180 Celsius) and the timer at 10 minutes. In case you also want to prepare tots or fries, place the tvp on top of them in the same basket. If the fries/tots need more than 10 minutes, first air fry them for a bit and then add the tvp for 8 minutes (shorter frying time because the device is already preheated). Enjoy!
